Sea Cadets get bank boost
and upgraded bathrooms, courtesy of the Bank of Bermuda's Centennial Trust.
Training Ship (T.S.) Bermuda, near Pembroke Community Centre, was originally built in the 1960s but the tremendous youth turnout quickly overloaded the facilities.
Parents and cadets added another portion to the one-story structure on North Shore Road.
Problems arose when the new portion and the old portion were not connected probably.
And having only one bathroom caused problems for the very active Sea Cadet unit, whose cadet corps is composed of both boys and girls as well as housing young men and women from other units around the world during exchanges.
"The Sea Cadets are a very positive organisation,'' said David Lang, Vice-President, Trust at the Bank of Bermuda, who helps to decide on grants for the Centennial Trust.
"Sea Cadets put in an application and they gave us a budget -- details which we looked through and see what they are trying to achieve.'' In a recent rededication of the property, with the Governor in attendence, the Sea Cadet Corps was blessed by the Bishop of Bermuda Rt. Revd. Ewen Ratteray.
