Ed Bailey has worn many hats during a long and distinguished career. Police officer. Lawyer. Acting Magistrate. Business owner. Member of Parliament.

He served as President of the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control for 14 years, and as Chairman of the Qualification Committee for the Associate Members of the International Cricket Council. He was chairman of the Public Service Vehicle Board and deputy chairman of the Department of Tourism’s Cruise Ship Committee.

Leadership comes naturally to Ed, as does a commitment to public service.

“I want to ensure that there is a bright future for my three grandchildren – and for everyone else’s grandchildren, too,” he says. “Education is the key – we simply must provide an education system that helps to prepare our young people to compete for jobs in the Bermuda economy.”

He is also passionate about the welfare of seniors. “We must provide a level of policing in Somerset that allows our seniors to feel safe in their own homes,” he says. “And, if they have moved into a seniors residence, we must ensure that staffing levels and facilities are sufficient to deliver a proper standard of care.”

Ed attended West End School and Sandys Secondary School. His father, Hugh, and mother, Gladys, were active in the community, as were his seven siblings. Together, they attended St. James’ Church.

He become a Police Cadet at 18 – and demonstrated his work ethic and commitment to self-improvement by earning a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland. He would rise to Detective Inspector, but not before earning a law degree from North London Polytechnic. Today, he is the Senior and Managing Partner of the law firm Edward P. Bailey & Associates.

Through it all, he has remained true to his West End roots.

“I am passionate,” he says, “about serving the people of Somerset.”
