Nusum return fails to inspire Silverbacks
Returning after injury, Bermuda's John Barry Nusum couldn't help the Atlanta Silverbacks from falling to defeat at the hands of the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night.
The A-League club went down 3-0 at home with Nusum, back in the squad after a hamstring problem, coming on as one of four second-half substitutes.
Atlanta were already two goals down and a man down, following a sending off when Nusum made his entrance.
And he did his best to reduce the arrears and net his first goal for the club, but a header crashed off the crossbar and the rebound bounced safely into the keeper's arms.
Richmond improved to 5-1-2 and 24 points in the South East Division, while Atlanta fell to 7-2 and remain on 32 points.
Meanwhile, Timmy Figureido had "a bad day at the office" as the Hampton Roads Mariners lost 3-0 in an exhibition game to Major League Soccer's New York/New Jersey Metrostars.
In the 20th minute the Bermuda goalkeeper tried to punch a high ball, but only succeeded in knocking it to an opponent who fired home from 15 yards. On 39 minutes the `keeper was beaten by a volley that went in off his hands. And the scoring was completed when Figureido charged down a loose ball only to see it bounce off his chest and into the path of an opponent, who waited for the `keeper's momentum to carry him by before tapping in from ten yards.
