Jamaican incentive for Premier title chasers

Premier Division action resumes after a two-week break tomorrow with teams fully aware that the leader of the pack at the Christmas break will earn the right to square off against a Jamaican Under-23 Select on December 29 at the National Sports Centre.

At present, Somerset Trojans hold down top spot and will be looking to add some breathing space between themselves and second-placed Devonshire Colts. But first they will have to see off the challenge of rivals Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field when one of the Island's fiercest derbies resumes.

Eagles must realise that it's now or never if they are to mount a serious bid to survive in the big league while the Trojans will be out to avenge last season's shock FA Cup defeat to their parish neighbours.

Somerset are coming off a comfortable 6-3 FA Cup win over First Division side St.David's last weekend while Eagles blasted Commercial team Vasco Mariners 10-0 in their previous outing.

Third-placed Boulevard and seventh-placed Devonshire Cougars, originally scheduled to play last night, have had their match put back to tomorrow at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Martonmere Cup champions Devonshire Colts will be hoping for Trojans to slip up in order that they can retake the top slot.

But first they will have to get by Dandy Town at St. John's Field.

Town are riding high after finally bursting Boulevard's FA Cup bubble earlier in the week. The two teams were forced to slug it out for 210 minutes before Town's veteran striker Carlos Smith settled the issue.

Town will be looking to close in on the leaders heading into the mid-season break while their opponents will be seeking to get back to their winning ways after being bundled out of the FA Cup last week by PHC.

The match between North Village and PHC Zebras has now been called off as Somerset Cricket Club will be closed tomorrow out of respect for late honorary member William (Puddy) Cann. BFA officials are expected to reschedule the match for next week.

Elsewhere, in First Division action runaway leaders Hamilton Parish take on lowly Paget at White Hill Field while surprise third-placed Prospect tackle unpredictable St.George's at Police Field. During their last encounter, St.George's again showed that they will be no pushovers in the FA Cup by handing Parish their first defeat of the season while Prospect shut out Commercial team St. George's All-Stars.

Wolves take on Social Club at BAA Field while a rejuvenated Southampton Rangers meet St.David's at Lord's.
