Record entries for Island Challenge
Organisers of Bermuda’s Island Challenge announced record entries for the new obstacle adventure, the first of three events in the Bermuda Triple Challenge Series 2013.At the close of entries yesterday, a total of 90 teams representing 360 participants had signed up, over and above the 55 teams recorded last year. The fundraising event for charity on March 9 will benefit Knowldge Quest, the Menuhin Foundation and De Boys’ Day Out Club.Organiser Aideen Ratteray Pryse said she was “absolutely delighted” with the record number of entries this year.“We knew the event would be popular but had no idea it would take off like this,” she said. “Of course we couldn’t do it without the support of lead sponsor, KRyS Global, as well as the very necessary and able assistance of the Bermuda Regiment.”Teams of four will start at Warwick Camp and follow a route that includes Warwick Long Bay Playground, Warwick Long Bay, Horseshoe Bay, the sand dunes behind the beaches and the Regiment’s assault course as a finale.Said Ms Ratteray Pryse: “Like last year, team members will get wet and sandy but, also, they will be challenged in new ways with new obstacles this year.”The second event will take place in St George’s on April 28 with the Bermuda Triple Challenge Series Urban Foot Race. And on October 12 the event moves to Dockyard with the Royal Challenge.Participants in all three events will be eligible to become the Bermuda Triple Challenge winner.Prizes will be awarded in five categories, the grand prize will go to the team that scores the most points; and volunteers are needed. For more information visit www.islandchallenge.org or e-mail islandchallenge@logic.bm.
