The first game saw Mariners hammer Renegades 33-5 while Teachers stopped Police 27-10.

Teachers opened the scoring with a penalty taken by captain Dennis Cherry.

Renegades soon took the lead with a try from number eight Richard Hyde who then failed to convert.

Before the half, Cherry regained the lead with a penalty earned by a very hard-fighting pack of forwards. Soon after the interval, Teachers' number eight Noel Capewell crashed over the line as several Police defenders stood mesmerised.

Then, one of the borrowed Renegades players fought his way across the line to score the second try. Minutes later replacement Tim White stormed through for Teachers' third try.

All three tries were converted by Cherry and Hyde added an unconverted try.

Mariners led 12-5 at the half against Renegades on their way to a convincing win. Mariners tries' came from Alec Roberts and Keith Hodgekins as Hodgekins converted his own try for two more points. The Renegades score was from Liam McKitrick.

In the second half, Hodgekins had a second try and new player from Australia, Daniel Olsen, also scored.
