Nursery slammed after toddler goes missing

A nursery has been blasted by an angry grandparent after one class went on an outing -- and left one of the children behind.

Two-year-old Jahtwan Trott was returned to the Happy Valley Day Care Centre, Pembroke, after he was found by a passer-by near the Arboretum on Thursday.

Grandmother Donna Trott said: "Since then he has been getting up at night crying and crying, twisting and turning.

"I asked for him to have counselling and they said it would have to wait until the investigation was done.

"They didn't count them when they put them all in the van and when they got back to school a man brought him back, They didn't know he was missing. "He was missing for 25 minutes.'' But she said at a parents meeting last night the nursery claimed a count had been done.

Mrs. Trott said: "How can you count and leave one behind? That's ridiculous.

"This is my grandson's life, they found him on a bridge.

"He could have fallen over and been found dead.

"There's so many things that could have happened. There's all types of freaks out there, someone could have taken him and raped him.

"They assured parents that it wouldn't happen again.'' Mrs. Trott said she is now going to accompany her grandson on future field trips.

"We kept him home on Friday and let him come today.

"This is Government -- if it was me or his mother who did this they would have been after us.'' Happy Valley Day Care Centre coordinator Mrs. Burrows refused to answer questions about the blunder and referred The Royal Gazette to Health Permanent Secretary Colin Blades.
