Carl Bazarian looks to meet with Government
Developer Carl Bazarian is still hopeful he can build a hotel on the former Club Med site in St George’s — even though Government is moving to cut all ties with his company.Hired by the Progressive Labour Party Government to construct a new Park Hyatt Resort in 2008, Mr Bazarian was finally kicked off the job by the former PLP administration last December after the development was hit with a series of delays and appeared to be making no progress. And last month the new One Bermuda Alliance Government confirmed that it had no plans to invite Mr Bazarian back to the island to thrash out a new agreement.Instead, Government said it would get Parliament to repeal the Act which gave the developer a 262-year lease on the site, making the termination final. But last night a representative for Mr Bazarian said that the developer was still in talks with officials — and was hoping to meet with Government soon.“Mr Bazarian continues to be hopeful that he will be building a hotel in the east end,” E Michael Jones told The Royal Gazette.Mr Jones added that Mr Bazarian was confident that he will meet with Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell to discuss future possibilities for the site.“We’re just waiting for a date to be confirmed,” he said.By press time last night a Ministry of Tourism spokesman had been unable to confirm if Government officials are scheduled to meet with Mr Bazarian.
