Cleaner admits cheque theft
A social inquiry report was ordered for a woman who pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court to stealing a travellers cheque and using it to buy groceries from Arnold's Market on St. John's Road in Pembroke.
Carol Ann Daniels, 52, from Pembroke admitted breaking and entering the office of Oxidental Ltd. on November 16, using a key from one of the employees, and stealing a $500 travellers cheque from the owner of the business.
The court heard that Daniels, who is a self employed cleaner, purchased $110.79 of groceries from Arnold's Market and left with $389.21 in change.
Police later recovered the cheque from the supermarket after the owner of Oxidental Ltd. notified them of the theft, and on January 8 Daniels was arrested and admitted the theft and fraud after passing the cheque at the supermarket.
Daniels said in court that she was sorry for what she had done and that she was willing to pay the money back.
Magistrate Carlisle Greaves released Daniels on $1,000 bail to reappear before him on March 28 for sentencing.
