Wollmann qualifies Bermuda for 2014 Summer Youth Olympics

Bermuda will be represented at next year’s Summer Youth Olympics in China in sailing, thanks to female sailor Ceci Wollmann.The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club (RHADC) sailor secured a spot for Bermuda at next year’s Youth Olympics after placing third in the female division and 12th overall at the 2013 Byte CII World Championship that concluded in Newport, Rhode Island yesterday.The promising sailor posted three top ten finishes in the 13 race series which saw sailors allowed to throw out their two worst scores.“I think this is absolutely fantastic news and the dinghy club (RHADC) should be very proud of her,” commented Bermuda Sailing Association (BSA) senior sailing coach, Paul Doughty. “This is absolutely marvellous that one of our young sailors has once again put us on the map for the Youth Olympics.“I’m not surprised Bermuda has qualified and what’s encouraging is that we are doing these things above Optimist level which we haven’t done for about ten years proper.”Peter Dill was Bermuda’s highest finisher in the overall standings, placing eighth with seven top ten displays that included a bullet in the final race.Bermuda was also represented by Benn Smith and Chase Cooper who placed 27th and 30th respectively.Hungary’s Jonatan Vadnai topped the overall fleet in Rhode Island while the women’s title went to compatriot Maria Erdi.
