Bermuda 93-8 (20 overs)USA 95-2 (16.2 overs)Bermuda lost their opening match of the three match Twenty20 tour of Fort Lauderdale against USA yesterday, going down by eight wickets at the Brian Picollo Park.Arriving in Florida yesterday and going straight into action ahead of their ICC World T20 qualifiers in Dubai, Bermuda suffered a batting slump after Dion Stovell and Chris Douglas put on 30 for the first wicket in 4.4 overs before Douglas was bowled for seven. After that wickets fell at regular intervals as the projected scored dropped with each over as the batsmen found runs hard to come by.Only Stovell, last season’s league MVP, reached double figures, scoring 48 off 46 balls with four fours before he departed in the 17th over at 79-5. David Hemp, batting at number three, managed just four off nine balls, captain Janeiro Tucker hit seven, including a six off the delivery before he was dismissed, while Tre Manders and Malachi Jones also contributed seven each as Bermuda slumped to 85-7.Jacobi Robinson scored two and Kwame Tucker five before he was bowled by Neil McGarrell on the final ball of the innings. Terryn Fray, batting at number nine, was two not out.McGarrell, a former West Indies Test spinner, finished with figures of two for seven off three overs, while off-break bowler Karan Ganesh took two for 20 from four overs and medium-pacer Adam Sanford two for 14 from four overs.US, set to score at less than five runs an over, had a cautious start between young openers Steven Taylor (19) and Fahad Babar (21), with the pair putting on 37 after eight overs before Dion Stovell, the fifth Bermuda bowler used, struck twice in his second over. He took a good, low catch off his own bowling to remove Taylor for 21 and then three balls later removed Steve Massiah for one when he gave a catch to Manders to make it 39-2 after 8.5 overs. Stovell finished with the only two Bermuda wickets, for 21 off his allotted four overs, to emerge as Bermuda best player in the match.Babar completed his 50 before the score was passed and ended the match in style, smashing Jacobi Robinson for a six over square leg to seal the victory. Babar finished 58 not out from 45 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes as he and Srinavasa Santhanam, who opened the US bowling, shared in an unbroken third wicket stand of 56 in less than eight overs. Santhanam finished on 13.Bermuda opened the bowling with Derrick Brangman (0-29 off four) and Janeiro Tucker (0-5 in two overs) before three more bowlers (Jacobi Robinson, Malachi Jones and Stovell were brought into the attack by the seventh over. Robinson gave up 24 runs in his 2.2 overs, Jones eight off three and Kamal Bashir eight runs off his one over.Bermuda will play two more T20 matches today and tomorrow at the Brian Picollo Park.
