Coach Best gets squad together
launch the senior national soccer squad's training programme for next month's international matches.
Yesterday Best released a list of 27 names, all of who are invited to attend tonight's meeting (6.00) at the BFA offices in Hamilton, when plans for upcoming matches will be discussed.
"I regard is as an important meeting because I want to be ahead of the eight ball when it comes to our preparation for next month's international fixtures and ultimately the preparation for our World Cup preliminary round commitments next year,'' said Best.
"I am hoping that all of the players named will make sure that they attend, we want to get things steered in the right direction from the outset.'' The squad is as follows: Troy Hall, Timmy Figureido, Shannon Burgess, Clifford Roberts, Kentoine Jennings, Randy Spence, Andrew Rahman, Otis Steede, Devarr Boyles, Karl Roberts, Meshach Wade, Keishon Smith, Dwight Basden, Dennis Robinson, Dano Outerbridge, Paul Cann, Shaun Smith, Carlos Smith, Dwight Warren, Leroy Stevens, Musceo Hunt, Desmond Burgess, Jamal Boyles, Tokia Russell, Omar Shakir, David Thomas, Aljame Zuill.
The BFA last month revealed that they will play a series of six international matches on the Island in the space of four or five weeks, probably against opponents from the Caribbean and Central America.
Best was yesterday unable to add any further details about the names of opponents, and general secretary David Sabir said details were still being worked out. However, Best was satisfied that the BFA was committed to bringing in quality opponents for the Bermuda team.
"In fact we are all working hard at finding opponents, hopefully these games planned will materialise so that we can get the ball rolling. With the World Cup coming up we really need to move swiftly,'' said Best.
He noted that it was important for himself and the players to know what is scheduled, realising that it is the only way to ensure that the players are inspired enough to support the early training programme.
"We are hopeful that the players, once they are made aware of the BFA's commitment to find opposition for the near future, will be convinced to throw their full support behind our preparations,'' said Best.
