The Bermuda Stock Exchange enjoyed its heaviest trading day in months when more than $2.3 million worth of Bank of Butterfield shares were traded yesterday.
The bank's shares fell 12.5 cents to close at $34.625 on volume of 68,422, meaning the trade was worth $2,369,111.
The trade, executed by Bermuda Commercial Bank, helped drive the Exchange Index down 6.94 points to 1,159.80.
Bank of Bermuda shares also lost ground yesterday, falling 125 cents to $20.25 on volume of 1,200 shares. BAS dropped 25 cents to $3.25 on volume of 854.
Trading in the insurance sector was also active although there were no price changes. Argus traded at $9.25 on volume of 990 while BF&M 9% preference shares were unchanged at $10 on volume of 1000.
Also unchanged were: Belco, $20, 1,756 shares; and Bank of Bermuda 9% capital notes, $107.50, 1500 units.
