Stars in comfortable victory over YMSC

Western Stars, 143 for four, beat Young Men’s Social Club, 139 all out, by six wicketsWestern Stars produced mature performances with both bat and ball as they retained their Central Counties title with a six-wicket win over Young Men’s Social Club at St John’s Field on Saturday.Bristling with confidence following their nine-wicket thrashing of Devonshire Rec, a game they held the former champions to just 37 runs, Stars put together another solid performance against YMSC.Brothers Swayne and Seth Campbell did the damage with the ball, reducing YMSC to 139 all-out before Tre Manders (52) and McLaren Lowe (69 not out) chased down the target with relative ease.Manders said: “We were very confident because the team has batted well in every single game at home, and even though I got out with 20 odd more runs to get, I would have still have been confident in getting the runs if it was 100 more runs to get.“Both Swayne and Seth bowled extremely well and they put us in a good position to win the game and they really laid the foundation for the match.”Winning the toss and electing to field, Stars ripped the heart out of the opposition’s batting line-up thanks with the Campbell brothers doing the brunt of the damage.Only YMSC opener Ryan Shepherd (63), put up any resistance, batting all of his side’s 33 overs, while Clay Darrell was the second highest scorer with 16.The Campbell brother grabbed four wickets apiece. In reply, a 90-run second wicket partnership between Manders and Lowe provided the springboard Stars needed to reach their target.Manders added: “Although Lowe and myself did bring it back in our favour, it was nothing new for the two of us because we have brought a few games back in our favour since we started playing together.“If you think about it, I think it’s actually more difficult chasing a smaller total because when we go out to bat (there’s a danger) we might just go through the motions instead of playing our very best.“We can easily lose focus and lose control of the game by giving away our wickets, but overall we can handle it, my team is going to be up for anything that comes our way.”
