Umpire Gibbons heads to Costa Rica
Kent Gibbons will be the latest local umpire to head overseas to stand in an ICC event.Gibbons has been selected to officiate at the Pepsi ICC Americas Division Three Tournament to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica, next month. He will be joined by Devonshire Rec’s Michael Glasford who has been selected to be an official scorer.The Division Three tournament is a six-team competition in which Peru, Belize, Chile, Costa Rica, Falkland Islands and Mexico will compete for a spot in the ICC World Twenty20 2012.“I am delighted to see that Bermudian officials continue to be recognized at the international level,’ said Bermuda Cricket Board president Reggie Pearman.“A major focus of the BCB’s Development Plan is to increase the opportunities for our officials. The fact that Bermuda has been represented on the international stage in the last four ICC Americas Region tournaments is a testament to the success of this initiative.”An umpiring course for new umpires or persons interested in umpiring, commenced on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. This is a six week course and will be held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. until March 29, 2011, at the Community Affairs Conference Room, Corner of Court & Reid Streets, Hamilton.Classes will be conducted by ICC Americas Elite Panel Umpire, Roger Dill, who is the first umpire from the ICC Associates/Affiliates countries to stand in a full One Day International (ODI) match.
