Ms Rachael Smith and Ms Tonetta Spring listed "rules'' which students had to follow in order to be deemed good in their classrooms.

The rules were: Bring all materials to class; Spend time in a profitable way; Positive classroom participation; Positive group participation; Be on time for class; and Make sure homework and class assignments are neatly completed.

At random intervals those students who met the criteria were rewarded with a "caught you being good'' raffle ticket.

Local businesses provided the incentive raffle prizes, like T-shirts, tickets to the movies and pizzas.

Senior Education Officer Mrs. Vivlyn Cooper told the Royal Gazette the programme's goal was to "build the morale of the students and to make a positive contribution to the climate of the school''.

"It is part of their discipline programme and it accents the positive and downplays the negative,'' Mrs. Cooper explained. "We are too quick to draw attention to the negative instead of accenting the positive.'' Mrs. Cooper said that she was not aware of the programme being conducted in any other senior schools at the moment but hoped it would be maintained at Northlands next term and would be expanded to more classes.
