Works Ministry engineers are monitoring the Causeway after weather forecasters said there was a strong possibility the Island would be hit by tropical storm force winds this evening.

A Government statement said there are no plans to close the Causeway at this time but the situation is being monitored. If a decision is taken to close the bridge, the public will be notified via various media outlets well in advance.

Government put in contingency plans to close the bridge in case of dangerously high winds after four people died on the Causeway in Hurricane Fabian in 2003.
