Smoke was detected in the women's washroom on the sixth floor of the office building shortly before 11.30 a.m..Two vehicles and ten firefighters were rushed to the scene, but there were no injuries and no damage.

Another office building is being constructed next door, and steel structure for the new building is being welded to the steel structure of Richmond House.

Heat from a welding torch was conducted along the steel and came into contact with mineral fibre insulation sprayed on a water pipe. The fuzzy exterior of the insulation was smoking, a spokesman said.

MACHETE ATTACK CRM Machete attack A 20-year-old Hamilton Parish man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital yesterday following a fight.

He claimed he was attacked by another man who struck him with a machete seriously injuring his hand.

The attack took place at 6.30 p.m. at a school field in Hamilton as the victim went to play soccer.

The victim claimed he was threatened by the man and a fight ensued during which his hand was sliced by the machete.

CIGARETTES STOLEN CTS Cigarettes stolen Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp yesterday ordered a social inquiry report on a Sandys Parish man who admitted stealing and having a drug problem.

John G. Smith, 41, of Hook `N' Ladder Lane, pleaded guilty to stealing a carton of Benson and Hedges cigarettes worth $35.20 from Arnold's Supermarket in Somerset on January 30.

Yesterday Mrs. Mapp heard that the self-employed painter had a history of stealing dating back to 1970.

"Last time it was Marlboro, this time it is Benson and Hedges,'' Mrs. Mapp quipped. "Have you changed your brand? You seem to have a passion for stealing cigarettes.''
