Shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Police received the report of shoplifting, Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said.

When the officers arrived at the store, a man began running in the direction of Victoria Street.

Officers pursued him on foot. But when the man was caught he began lashing out at them.
