Much of the service that had been hit by the interruption last week was restored last night and today all water was expected to be running.

Chief executive officer Allan Rance said repairs had been completed by yesterday morning to a pump at their reverse osmosis plant, after parts were flown in from the US.

The pump was up and running yesterday and busy filling up reservoirs, he said.

Mr. Rance said most of Hamilton's businesses were unaffected by the problem, which occurred last Thursday when the pump failed, losing a day's production of 500,000 gallons of water.

And he hit back at criticism from Reid Street business Rock Island Coffee cafe, who complained they had been kept in the dark over the service interruption.

Mr. Rance said staff at Bermuda Waterworks had contacted the cafe and offered them bottled water as a substitute, but they were not able to take them up on the offer because of the configuration of their coffee machines.
