You have had your chance
November 9, 2012Dear Sir,I would like to start this letter off by first applauding Phil Perinchief for having the 'testicular fortitude' our Premier has mentioned in the past, that she herself and many in her Cabinet severely lack. You have some excellent ideas Mr Perinchief and I wish you the very best in your constituency. I wish more politicians here would break away with party lines and do what is best for Bermuda for once.I hope Bermudians on December 17 likewise vote according to who they honestly feel is going to do the best job and not on any sort of party lines. I always wish, as I have heard it done more than once, that the PLP stop trying to parallel themselves with President Obama. I will be the first to tell you that I am not a Democrat in terms of US politics, but rather a moderate Republican. Having said that, you all have no place identifying with Obama. He is a man of utmost integrity from what I have seen and doesn't sit and play the race card or whine when the House of Republicans do not go his way. He works just that much harder. He also inherited a bad economy and debt. The PLP inherited a surplus of government funds and a stable economy since when they have squandered it away into the billions now in debt with not enough to show for it to justify such expenses.Shame on the UBP for not doing certain things, yes. But shame on you PLP for spending decades bemoaning the UBP's faults and as you say 'system of oligarchy' yet you came into power and over a decade later you are doing all the things you said you wouldn't even more so than the UBP ever did!Whilst admitting I was young in 1998, I was perceptive enough to listen and see people worry and bemoan the PLP success. My reply to adults was this "what's the big deal? Give them a chance. You complained the UBP have gotten lazy, well now you have a new government. Let the PLP have a shot at it."I was optimistic of the PLP then. However, you have had your chance and you outright blew it. After Dame Jennifer was unjustly ousted, the PLP in my eyes went into a nose dive and have never recovered. You should have stuck with her. She had her faults but out of all PLP's Premiers she is the one and only I respect as a politician. Paula Cox had my respect throughout the majority of PLP reign. However, she lost it by allowing Dr Brown's splurge of the public purse being just a cog in the wheel. Think before you check those boxes on December 17 Bermuda!ROBERT DAVIES, JRDevonshire
