Police report 40 acts of vandalism
of Hallowe'en pranks was put together.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Roseanda Jones said that most of the acts consisted of damage to property, objects being thrown at traffic and residences and minor fires.
She said that five men between the ages of 16 and 28 were arrested as a result. Of the five, three were charged with the possession of an offensive weapon, one with using threatening behaviour towards Police officers and the 28-year-old with theft.
Some of the more serious incidents included windows being smashed and a 39-year-old Hamilton Parish man being attacked after approaching a group of youths which he suspected had shattered the windows of his car.
The latter incident happened around 10.00 p.m. in St. David's. "He was not seriously hurt,'' Sgt. Jones said of the victim. "He was able to identify two of the young men responsible and we are following up on this incident.'' In other Hallowe'en news, a craft shop on Reid Street "lost a substantial amount of cash'' after a thief made off with a bank bag containing a large quantity of cash and cheques during the busy lunch period yesterday. The incident is being investigated.
