Women's centre to expand with full-time paid director
to expand soon with the hiring of its first full-time paid executive director.
Ms Toni Daniels who has held the title of director for almost a year claims the workload is now such that the Centre is making the post full-time.
"Now more people than ever before are utilising the services we offer,'' Ms Daniels said. "There is a big need.'' But Ms Daniels herself will not be taking the job. Instead she will be devoting herself to her own career.
With the hiring of the new director, the Centre will be taking a more aggressive marketing approach to heighten its profile in the community and make women more aware of its facilities.
Through no fault of the present management, strategies so far have been "piecemeal'' according to Ms Daniels. This, she said, was not fair to staff.
At present, there are seven part-time paid employees.
With the new post, to be advertised next week, Ms Daniels hoped the Centre would be run more efficiently and that eventually more funds would be raised.
The new director's day-to-day duties involved the co-ordination of volunteers, hiring and firing of staff and organisation of fund raising campaigns.
Future projects included the installation of a database and a drive on education.
Recently, the Resource Centre was asked to collaborate on the creation of new domestic violence legislation at the invitation of Human Affairs Minister the Hon. Jerome Dill.
She added that communication between Government and non-Government agencies on women's issues had improved vastly in recent times.
