metres as the Senior National Track and Field Championships came to a close at National Stadium yesterday.

Eatherley blazed home in 37 minutes, 44.5 seconds to easily come inside the national record of 39:26.51 that Jennifer Fisher set in Canada last year.

However, the Bermuda Track and Field Association has yet to ratify it as a new record because Eatherley ran in a mixed race against husband Brett Forgesson and Kavin Smith.

Smith won the race in 33:56.4 with Forgesson over a half-minute behind in 34:30.9.

Eatherley, who qualified for next month's CAC Championships in Cali, Colombia, in the half-marathon during the Marathon Derby, also met the qualifying standard in the 3,000 metres.

She did this on Saturday, running by herself, in a time of 10:03.0. Javelin thrower Terri-Lynn Paynter also was within CAC standards with a mark of 146 feet, seven inches.

The championships were marred by a small attendance with several of the athletes competing in events that are not their specialty.

Fisher, who ran uncontested in her favoured 800 metres, also had first-place finishes in the 100, 200, 400 and 4x100 relay.

The best contests of the weekend may have been between CAC and Junior Pan Am qualifiers Rohaan Simons and Stephen Woodley.

Simons completed a rare double of his close rival by winning the high jump and triple jump.

Both youngsters cleared 6-43 but Woodley had more misses. And in the hop, skip and jump, Simons went 44-63 and Woodley 43-61 .

On the track, Keivon Richardson scored a narrow 200 metres victory on Saturday. He clocked 22.1 seconds with Jermel Belboda (22.3) second, Anthony Smith (22.4) third, Calvin Simons (22.5) fourth and Donte Hunt (22.5) fifth.

Belboda repaid the favour the following day, though, by taking the 100 in 11.2 with Richardson (11.3) second and Simons (11.5) third.

The BTFA will hold a banquet prize presentation at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on July 24.
