Families enjoyed a fun-packed community event at Victor Scott Primary School’s field over the Easter weekend. An open air Good Friday joint church service was followed on Saturday with family orientated activities such as kite-flying and performances from bands. It was organised by One Community Unified to mark the anniversary of the murder of Kimwandae Walker, who was shot dead flying his kite with his children at Victor Scott a year ago.Pembroke East Central MP Michael Weeks, who helped organise this weekend’s events, said: “The feeling among people was good. It was about showing that in order for us to win we all must do our part: Government, the police and most definitely the community.“Not just by calling CrimeStoppers, but by coming out into the community in unity and showing the few that the many are not going to tolerate this.“The more people that come along to this kind of event across the Country the better.”Four men have been shot dead in Bermuda so far this year. Mr Weeks, the Minister without Portfolio, said: “Hopefully, going forward, this kind of event will mushroom into other events. Somehow, we need to win back the community.”He stressed the turnout had been good from all corners of society, while police who were there for security purposes ended up joining in the fun.Victor Scott’s P6 graduating class sold food, while other participating groups included Young Life, the Family Centre, Age Concern, Care Learning Centre, the Prison Fellowship of Bermuda and anti-gang organisation Cartel.l See more pictures on Page 6
