American warship coming to gas up

The "Oliver Hazard Perry'' Class Guided Missile Frigate USS Elrod was expected to arrive late this morning at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

A John S. Darrell spokesman said her destination was unknown but she was due to continue on her way later tonight.

On the cruise ship scene, Meyer Agencies Limited spokesman Mr. Stephen Paynter reported the Dreamward arrived on Monday morning in St. George's with 1,247 passengers.

The Dreamward shifted to Hamilton that afternoon -- earlier than scheduled -- because of Hurricane Marilyn. She was due to leave for New York later today.

The Horizon also arrived on Monday morning and berthed at Number One Dock in Hamilton with 1,355 passengers. She was due to shift to St. George's yesterday morning but decided to wait out Marilyn in Hamilton She moved to Number Seven Dock yesterday morning.

The Horizon was expected to move to St. George's this morning before leaving for New York later today.

Mr. Paynter also reported the Meridian remained in dry dock in Virginia this week.

The Royal Majesty arrived in St. George's on Tuesday with 897 passengers, local agents John S. Darrell reported. She berthed at Ordinance Island and was due to return to Boston tomorrow afternoon.

The Song of America skipped St. George's this week and berthed at Number Seven Dock in Hamilton with 1,211 passengers on Tuesday.

Yesterday morning she moved to Number One Dock and was due to leave tomorrow afternoon.

In other shipping news the Liberian flag vessel Samson stopped at Five Fathom Hole on Sunday afternoon to drop off a sick officer.

The Samson , an empty bulk carrier out of Ireland, was on her way to the Mississippi River when she was forced to make the unscheduled stop. She continued that afternoon.

The Oleander arrived Sunday with 114 dry containers and 41 refrigerated containers. Also on board were three 45-foot trailers of steel, a boat, a high-lift forklift and a flagpole.

She left on Tuesday and passed within 55 miles of Marilyn's centre. Her captain described it as "no worse that a winter trip''.

The Bermuda Islander arrived on Tuesday with 61 containers of which seven were refrigerated. Mr. Paynter said she was due to leave for Salem last night.
