Youth Library having a Dr. Seuss Festival

In celebration of the birthday of the beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss, the Bermuda Youth Library will be having a Dr. Seuss Festival this weekend.

Fun activities will be starting every hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and lasting about 45 minutes each session.

Well known community personalities will be joining the library staff to read their favourite Dr. Seuss story and sharing their favourite childhood book.

There will be singing, dancing, videos and crafts as well as lots of give-aways and prizes.

*** The exhibits at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute will be closed until further notice to allow for the installation of new exhibits worth $1.6 million.

The new exhibits, which will open in April, will feature family oriented interactive displays showcasing underwater exploration and fascinating facts about the ocean.

"We will add more interactivity, develop a sense of immersion in the ocean using sound and light, incorporate tales of the sea from explorers and Bermudians and offer family focussed activities appealing to visitors of all ages,'' explained BUEI director of marketing and sales Jacqueline Horsefield.

During the installation, which is expected to take six weeks, the BUEI gift shop and the restaurant La Coquille will be open for business seven days a week.

*** The Bermuda All Breed Club will host four International Championship Dog Shows this week at the Botanical Gardens in Paget.

The shows will be held on March 1, 2, 4 and 5 in the Main Ring of the Gardens.

Breed judging starts at 8.30 a.m. each day while group judging commences at 10.30 a.m. and ends approximately at 12.30 p.m. each day. The Best in the Show and Junior Handling will follow the judging.

The All Breed judges for the shows are Catherine and Levien Debruyne from Canada and Irene Bivin and Betty Leininger from the US.

The bi-annual group of shows will welcome dogs, handlers and owners from Canada and the US to compete with their Bermudian counterparts.

*** The Purchasing Management Association of Bermuda (PMAB) will hold a dinner meeting at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club this week.

Thursday's event will begin with a social hour at 5.30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6.30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Bill Ledrew, the Collector of Customs.

Admission is $35 in advance or $40 at the door. RSVP by calling 299-2807.

*** The enviro-cultural group, Rock Ramblers, will hold an East End fun ramble this weekend.

The open-ended, 1.5 mile informal ramble/picnic will take place Sunday at 9.30 a.m.

Participants are requested to arrive at 9.15 a.m. at the meeting point, Ferry Point Park in Ferry Reach, St. George's.

Organisers recommend that ramblers wear functional walking shoes and bring snack food, a beverage and a small garbage bag for trash en route.

Each ramble benefits a different environmental/cultural/service organisation and this one benefits Amnesty International Bermuda (The Women and Children's group). A voluntary contribution of $3 per rambler will be gratefully accepted.
