PHC look to carry on where they left off
In-form striker Antwan Russell admits PHC might have lost their element of surprise but remains confident they can continue their assault on the Premier Division title.Despite being tipped to struggle this season following the resignation of former coach Kyle Lightbourne, Zebras are currently ahead of Dandy Town on goal difference at the top of the table.Winning seven of their nine league matches during the first half of the season, PHC have emerged as genuine title contenders under new boss Brian (Bulla) Anderson.Tonight they take on Somerset Trojans at Somerset Cricket Club in the first Premier Division match of the new year, with Russell urging his team-mates to carry on were they left off 2011.“Our coach has told us that the surprise is over,” said Russell. “Everybody knows we can play and knows what to expect now when they play against PHC.“We’ll be looking to get the win against Somerset and continue where we left off in the first half of the season.”Their opponents, Trojans, will be looking to put their heavy defeat against North Village in the Friendship final on New Year’s Day firmly behind them. And Russell is braced for a tough encounter against the West Enders, who have also raised a few eyebrows this season with their encouraging performances.“PHC and Somerset have had a rivalry over the years, so it’s never going to be an easy game and tomorrow shouldn’t be any different,” he said.Russell currently tops the Premier Division scoring charts with 15 goals but believes there’s plenty more to come from him this campaign.“I’m content with my form so far this season but there’s always room for improvement,” said Russell, who scored in Bermuda’s 2-1 win over Trinidad in a World Cup qualifier at the National Sports Centre in October.“I’m just looking to keep it going and hopefully help PHC stay at the top of the table.”PHC take on Trojans at 8pm.
