Expect fireworks at town’s New Year celebrations

Fireworks are set to return to the East End as part of the Corporation of St George’s New Year’s Eve celebration. The family event will include live music, a fun land for children, food stalls and prizes. The Corporation organised a light show in King’s Square last year. This year members increased their fundraising efforts so that fireworks could be included as part of the celebration, Alderman Quinell Francis said.“Last year was sort of a come back for us, so this year we wanted to keep it going forwards,” she said.“I’m quite excited. I know a lot of people are interested because of the band. The Unit is quite popular. It’s a family-oriented event, and being that there’s no big free event in Hamilton this year, we are hoping to see a lot of people coming.“It’s a good thing for the town of St George’s, and we are looking forward to it.”Celebrations start at 7.30pm. Parking will be available at Tiger Bay, Penno’s Wharf and Wellington Park.
