One to boost internet speeds next week

Internet speed-up: One Communications

One Communications today announced it will automatically boost internet speeds for many of its customers next week.

The telecommunications services provider had increased its FibreWire internet speeds to a minimum of 50Mbps in March to support customers having to work from home and shelter in place.

“This effort will be replaced by the new, permanent internet speed boosts as of July 1,” One said. The company added that “the vast majority of FibreWire standard internet and all smart internet plan” customers could expect to see a speed boost of more than 50 per cent at no extra charge.

One added that it could offer speeds as high as 500 Mbps.

“Shelter-in-place and work-from-home mandates have given us an opportunity to test the bandwidth of our network and its true potential,” Brian Lonergan, One Communications’ chief commercial officer, said.

“Our newest FibreWire internet speed boost will allow customers to continue working, connecting with others, streaming and enjoying a multitude of other digital experiences, without limitation, from the comforts of home.”
