The new OBA Government has received a ringing endorsement from New York Mayor and longtime Bermuda resident Michael Bloomberg. The city chief said that the Island had been transformed since Craig Cannonier and the One Bermuda Alliance swept into office last December. And in an undisguised dig at the previous Progressive Labour Party administration, Mayor Bloomberg said that the change in Bermuda's fortunes since the last general election was “like night and day”.Mayor Bloomberg was speaking in New York at the christening ceremony of the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway, which is making its maiden voyage to Bermuda next week."They have a new government in Bermuda and I can just tell you, it's like night and day,” the mayor told a packed press gathering at a pier on the Hudson River.“This has always been a wonderful island and today it is an awful lot better than before.“It keeps getting better every time. People love this new government. And tourists will as well."Mayor Bloomberg, who owns a property in Tucker's Town, also described Bermuda as one of the most welcoming places he had ever visited. After complimenting Bermuda, Mayor Bloomberg was asked by Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie if he could make some similarly positive remarks about his island nation."Mr Prime Minister, you do not have to worry — nor Mr Premier,” Mayor Bloomberg said, acknowledging the presence of Mr Cannonier at the ceremony.“I will spend a lot of time — particularly after the next 238 days, when I'm going to be unemployed. I'll have plenty of time to go to both your wonderful islands. And, Mr Prime Minister, I play a lot of golf both on your island and on the Premier's island. And I think it's fair to say that these two islands — and I've been to a lot of islands in my last 71 years — you are never made to feel as welcome as you are in both of these places."The 18-deck Breakaway, which can carry 4,000 passengers, is sure to bring a taste of the Big Apple when it arrives in Bermuda next week.
