Sounds of peace at Somersfield

Somersfield Academy Primary students produced a formationa of Peace Sign at the Celebration.

The anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in 1945 was celebrated at Somersfield Academy in a ceremony in the main courtyard on Friday, October 24.

The whole school gathered to hear Mrs Margaret Hallett rededicate the school’s two peace poles which she had placed in the courtyard during her time as Principal.

Mrs Hallett emphasised that Somersfield has always been a peace-loving community and that we were all peacemakers and need to continue to be.

There was participation from every division of the school. The youngest children made peace wheels, there was a peace sign formation of primary students, and both the primary and secondary prefects and head prefects read passages of peace.

Secondary students have spent time refurbishing the peace poles under the direction of our art department.

The ceremony ended with the students and faculty singing, Let There Be Peace on Earth, a song that embodies the Somersfield core values and promise.
