Possible weapon seized as police make arrests in St George’s
Police are believed to have seized a weapon while making a high-profile series of arrests in St George’s yesterday afternoon.St George’s West MP Kim Swan said the incident took place in Wellington Slip Road late in the afternoon and was witnessed by several members of the public.Mr Swan said anti-social behaviour appears to have shifted to that area from a nearby commercial spot in recent times. The United Bermuda Party leader told The Royal Gazette: “There is growing concern in this community about the level of activity that is taking place, with increased loitering in the Wellington Slip Road area.“It comes as no surprise to already concerned residents from this area that police officers were in full force near their residences.“Many residents are frustrated by this problem which has landed on their doorsteps. They have also become uneasy, particularly with the increased gang violence and murders around the Island.”Mr Swan said police community action teams, residents, church, Government, Belco, merchants and local politicians had got together to clean up the nearby spot which had suffered from loiterers.“Unfortunately, the problem moved across the street and began to impact households along the roadside,” he said.“What is certain, this community does not condone the loitering.“We the collective community of St George are working with law enforcement to ensure that our community and by extension our Country becomes safer.“As the area MP I encourage our community to set up neighbourhood watches and support the police.”Police said they were unable to give any details on yesterday’s incident at the time of going to press.
