Sentencing delayed after court outburst

A man smashed a window with his fist because anger management advisors had taught him to lash out at anything other than people when he lost his temper, a court heard.

Lorin Baxter, 27, of Fork Lane, Southampton, pleaded guilty at Magistrates? Court yesterday to causing $60 damage to the window on Monday afternoon. However, he was sent back into custody overnight after shouting abuse while Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner attempted to pass sentencing. Mr. Warner is expected to sentence Baxter today.

Baxter had broken the window as Police officers led him away from Magistrates? Court, where he was facing a separate charge on Monday, at 3 p.m.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith told the court yesterday: ?Uniformed Police officers were on duty outside the Magistrates? Court. The defendant had been transferred to Hamilton Police Station.

?He immediately became irritated and behaving in an aggressive manner. He was handcuffed.

?The handcuffs were removed, but he still continued to behave in an aggressive manner.

?He said ?don?t tell me anything. If you do, you will all see? ? then punched a glass window.?

Baxter told the court: ?I was agitated. Anger management court said don?t hit anybody ? punch a wall or something instead. And that?s what I did.

?I told them I would pay for the damage to the window and that was it.?

Mr. Warner told Baxter: ?Based on your behaviour yesterday, and your previous behaviour, you are of the view that you can do what you want, when you want.?

Baxter interrupted, shouting: ?You guys are bothering me. Every time I go somewhere, the Police start bothering me.

?I have been assaulted by a Police officer in my house. I might as well become a Police officer and do whatever I like.?

Mr. Warner replied: ?You demonstrated by what happened yesterday. You demonstrated by what happened in your history.

?You demonstrated by what happened just now. Take him back down to the Police station.?
