If you’ve got it, Style Bermuda can help you flaunt it
Any fashionista knows that Cup Match provides the best opportunities to flaunt your individual style in front of thousands of onlookers. From Chewstick’s BeachFest, Cup Match itself at Somerset Cricket Club, and to any number of parties taking place — Stylebermuda.com has captured some of the season’s hottest styles in three recent photo shoots.Founder Shiona Turini said several trends like tropical, floral prints, neons, cut-outs and sport-inspired gear were heating up the fashion world this summer. When it comes to swim suits — bejewelled bikinis, sleek, black monokinis and cut-outs were all the rage. The Style Bermuda team decided to use models of varying shapes and sizes for their swimsuit shoot — to prove that no matter what your body type you can find something flattering.Stylist Chaundre Burgess said: “Bathing suit shopping can be a nightmare — and quite intimidating. We all want to look great and feel great when we’re out on the beach- and that won’t happen in an unflattering swimsuit.“For a woman to look her absolute best, she has to wear what works for her body type. It’s that simple.”Ms Burgess said she fell in love with the black one-piece by Michael Kors. “It’s super sexy and ultra chic — and I’m in love with the gold belt detailing. It’s one of my must have swimsuits for the season.”Not overlooking the importance of cricket and other sporting activities during the summer months, Style Bermuda decided to feature local athletes in a photo shoot, alongside some of the Island’s top models.Freelance writer Olivia Riley said: “It’s no secret that cricket is a staple in Bermuda’s sporting world and one of the focal points of what is probably the most uniquely Bermudian experiences: Cup Match.“We wanted to celebrate this cultural mainstay and highlight some of the up-and-comers on the field. These are positive young men with goals, determination and a passion — and they deserve to be highlighted,” she added.Athletic styles were also embraced on the season’s runways, according to accessory director of Teen Vogue, Ms Turini. She said: “Sporty styles ruled the runways.“While we’ll always favour stilettos, sneakers made a huge impact this season: from wedged high-tops to classic Keds or graphic coloured athletic style sneakers.“Baseball jackets with feminine touches were a hit, and simple silhouettes with sporty inspirations always work. The best part is sporty styles are comfortable — so you don’t have to worry about an outfit malfunction while at the Crown -n- Anchor table at Cupmatch.”Style Bermuda Editor Karlandra Smith said the Style Bermuda team “wanted to combine two of Bermuda’s obsessions: fashion and sports — in one photo shoot”.“Not only were sport-inspired fashions a strong trend on the runway, but it’s how Bermudians actually dress: they put stylish spins on quite casual clothes, and make it look great.”Editor Jakai Franks said the end result was great and it ended up being one of their favourite shoots to organise. What made it special “is that every athlete mentioned an older man as their inspiration when it came to being involved in cricket,” he said.“It reminded us all of the importance of positive male role models in our community and was both impressive and inspiring.”Visit www.stylebermuda.com to see the full photo shoots and get more summer fashion and beauty advice.
