Family health month events are announced
Bermuda over the next few weeks.
This year's focus is spending quality time with children of all ages and involves a number of groups and organisations.
A Health Department spokesperson said: "The objective during the month and throughout the year is to increase awareness of the importance of strengthening the family unit and to maintain the well-being of all the children in our Island.
"The Health Department and other social agencies in Bermuda, recognise that during the present stressful social environment, a commitment must be shown by adults and community groups to provide opportunities for families to enjoy stress-free hours together.
"This year an invitation was extended to community groups and churches to promote activities that encourage the healthy growth and development of the child.'' During the month, the Aquarium, the National Gallery, the Maritime Museum and Crystal Caves will all have special events with free admission for children accompanied by an adult.
Family Health Month begins tomorrow evening, when a Family Back-To-School Barbecue will be held at the Clear View Guest House. The following morning there will be breakfast followed by a trail walk through Tom Moore's Jungle.
Also on Saturday, the Amalgamated Bermuda Union of Teachers will hold a Parenting Fair, in Shed No. 1, Front Street, Hamilton.
Chairperson of the Community Awareness Committee, Ms Shawnette Purnell, said: "The objective of the fair is to give the community, especially parents, an opportunity to become aware of many educational resources and help groups available for our children.
"Many representatives will be on hand to explain and answer questions about the various organisations.
She said there would also be entertainment and storytelling.
On the same day, a Family Social will be held at the Government Day Centre, on Happy Valley Road, Pembroke. Staff and parents can discuss child and family issues.
On Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. an array of local entertainers will perform at Dockyard for a "Goodbye To Summer'' event.
They include the Clay House Steel Band and the Empress Monnen Dancers, the Dynamic City Rockettes and the Somerset Gombeys.
