NEW LOW BA FARE FLY British Airways is offering discount winter flights to England, it was announced today.

The January Early Saver is a special fare of $479 midweek and $499 weekend for flights between Bermuda and Gatwick Airport in London for travel beginning on January 15 and to be completed by March 15.

CANNABIS CHARGES CTS Two St. George's women face charges of importing more than $100,000 worth of cannabis.

Jacqueline Brangman, 50, of Barracks Close, and Sharon Ann Tyrrell, 48, of Silk Alley were charged in Magistrates' Court last week with trying to import 2,055 grams of cannabis at the Civil Air Terminal.

Crown Counsel Ms Sharon Kenney, prosecuting, told acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp that the drugs had a street value of $102,750.

Brangman and Tyrrell were not required to enter a plea.

Lawyers Mr. Philip Perinchief appeared for Tyrrell and Mr. Archibald Warner appeared for Brangman.

The 38,000-ton Excel is expected to arrive at Five Fathom Hole at 1 p.m.

The 182-metre tanker -- currently southwest of Bermuda -- was going from Baltimore to the Virgin Islands.

"A new captain is being flown out by British Airways,'' said a Harbour Radio spokesman yesterday.

FREIGHTER TOWED SHI A damaged Greek bulk carrier taking soya beans to Italy from Mississippi River diverted to Bermuda.

The Captain Sarantis was towed here by the tug Irving Miami , arriving at Five Fathom Hole yesterday afternoon.

A Harbour Radio spokesman said the carrier developed engine problems on December 21. It was about 360 miles southwest of Bermuda.

The tug is thought to have been in the area when the alarm was sounded.
