Thomsons keep it in the family
Husband and wife duo Garth and Deanna Thomson won overall cycling titles in both the men's and ladies' Bank of Bermuda Foundation Time Trial Championships last Saturday.
Garth Thomson continued to dominate the domestic time trial events with a clear victory in the masters and overall categories, while his wife Deanna took the overall women's title.
On Sunday, Geri Mewett and Sarah Bonnett claimed honours in the RMS Construction Road Race Championship at Southside.
Tre-shun Correia won the junior male category and Hayley Evans the junior female champion.
Mewett won the RMS Construction Road Race Championship beating the 74 other riders.
It was the second national champion title for Mewett who resides in Tennessee and races in the US. Last year's champion Scott Williams took second while Mark Lombardi finished third.
The women's race quickly became a race between triathletes Julia Hawley and Karen Bordage who battled with Sarah Bonnett and Nicole Mitchell for long periods, before Bonnett took the title.
The junior male category was anticipated to be a showdown between the young men selected to represent Bermuda at the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships next month.
Alex Godfrey missed Sunday's race with a broken collar bone, but is expected to recover to compete at the championships in Aruba. So it was left to Dominique Mayho, Mark Godfrey, Correia and Marquise Cann to provide the entertainment and they did not disappoint. Eventually it came down to a sprint finish with Mayho prevailing.
The junior female race was won by Molly Pilgrim while non-championship races were also held for junior 'B' and 'C' riders with Charley Pilgrim and Kion Richardson claiming the honours.
