Supersub's treble strike sparks Colts

Substitute Marvin Belboda scored a superb hat-trick yesterday to keep unbeaten Colts' Premier Division title challenge on track -- but he expects to be dropped for the next match.

Belboda came on just 12 minutes into yesterday's clash at White Hill Field, replacing the injured Clevon Hill, and then scored in the 26th, 57th and 59th minutes and also set up Jerome Laws to net the fifth, as Colts sealed their fourth victory in five league games.

Though delighted after claiming his first top-flight hat-trick, the modest Belboda said after the match: "My team-mates call me Supersub, so really I was just doing my job.'' And did he think he would make the starting eleven for Colts' next match? "No, I'll be substitute again,'' he said, without a hint of bitterness.

Belboda was keen to deflect the limelight onto his team-mates. "Our defenders were right on today and I want to congratulate them. If you keep out the opposition, you've always got a good chance of winning,'' he said.

For Boulevard, this was the second 5-1 defeat in five days, following their midweek FA Cup defeat at the hands of Southampton Rangers. But the Blazers missed enough chances to have made the scoreline far more respectable.

Colts put Boulevard under siege for the first 10 minutes and Jamaine Aberdeen went close with two early attempts, while Shannon Burgess saw his effort cleared off the line by Blazers defender Robert Wilson.

Colts drew first blood with a 23rd minute goal. Nathan Samuels' right-wing cross evaded a crowd of players jumping for the ball, including Boulevard keeper Antoine Anthony, and Jahmah Samuels ran in beyond the far post to fire home.

Three minutes later an excellent move, sparked by Aberdeen's glorious long ball, continued by Jahmah Samuels' run and low cross and finished off by Belboda's low shot on the turn into the net, made it 2-0.

Colts then went off the boil and Boulevard could easily have been level by the break had striker Shakia Crockwell made more of two good chances.

The Blazers continued to apply some pressure after the interval. A Wilson free kick, flicked on by substitute Troy Smith, caused a goalmouth scramble which Colts were lucky to survive.

But against the run of play, Colts then killed off the contest with two Belboda goals in three minutes.

In the 57th minute, Aberdeen was sent clear and shot against the underside of the bar. The ball rebounded to Belboda who made no mistake.

The pick of the goals came in the 59th minute when Belboda drilled a low 25-yarder past Anthony and into the bottom right-hand corner to make it 4-0.

Stevie Wade managed to pull one back for Boulevard in the 71st minute, when he controlled Wilson's excellent cross from deep on his thigh and side-footed past Hall.

But three minutes from time, Colts rounded off the rout with a goal which displayed Belboda's selfless attitude. As the Blazers defence waited for an offside flag which never came, the hat-trick hero took the ball past Anthony's dive. But instead of tapping it over the line, he squared to Laws and gifted his team-mate a goal instead.
