Dog training workshop to be held this weekend

The Dog Training Club of Bermuda will be presenting a lecture series this month led by a dog training expert from New Jersey.

Pia Silvani, director of training and behaviour at St. Hubert's Dog Training School, will lead the workshops which will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Horticultural Hall of the Botanical Gardens.

Topics to be covered include:

• What is this Dog Telling Me? Understanding Canine Body Language: Learn how to improve the communication between you and your dog. Friday, 6.30-8.30 p.m.

• Learning Theory 101: Understanding How Dogs Learn. A review of the basic principles of learning and how they relate to training your dog. Saturday, 1-3 p.m.

• When Dogs Live With Children: The do's and don't's of making their relationship work. Saturday, 3.30-5.30 p.m.

• Frightened Fidos: An introduction to fear related problems in dogs including a look at territorial and protective aggression. Sunday, 1-3 p.m.

• What is this Dog Telling Me? Understanding Canine Body Language for Children. A talk for children on helping them understand a dog's non-verbal cues. There will be no charge for children at this lecture, however, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Sunday, 3.30-5.30 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided and the cost for attending is $15 per session or $50 for a weekend pass.
