Police deserve praise September 14, 1999
Gazette .
Dear Sir, On Sunday, August 8, 1999 during a vacation on your beautiful island, my wife and I had the misfortune to be `mugged' midway between Hamilton town and our hotel "The Princess, Hamilton''.
The assailant, on a moped, knocked my wife to the ground and snatched her shoulder bag which contained my wallet and credit cards. I was uninjured, but my wife was badly bruised and traumatised for some days after. We were interviewed by two officers from the Bermuda Police Force, P.C.s Trott and Gunn.
During the interview and statement-taking process, we were treated with the utmost courtesy and respect by the two officers, they showed us kindness, and a complete understanding of the situation and offered us the greatest sympathy for our ordeal.
We would like to offer our sincere thanks to two fine Police officers who without any doubt are a credit to the Police Service of Bermuda and who deserve to go far in their chosen careers. I would also offer our thanks to Det. Sgt. Dave O'Meara who rang us on the day we returned home from Bermuda to inform us that the bag and its contents had been recovered, and after forensic tests would be posted to us.
The guest services managers at the Princess were a great help to us during our ordeal, so in total the help from your two officers and the hotel staff helped us through a very traumatic time.
Our ordeal will not in any way discourage us or our family from returning to Bermuda, it and its people are "magnificent''.
KEVIN AND PAULINE CALLOWAY Dudley, West Midlands, England P.S. We would be pleased if this letter was published in the Bermuda press since our treatment deserves recognition and the population of Bermuda would be made aware of how good their visitors are treated.
