Bermuda pair on trial with Harrisburg
Bermuda internationals Logan Alexander and Domico Coddington have been invited for pre-season training with USL-D2 team Harrisburg City Islanders after impressing at recent trials.
The duo were recommended to Islanders by former Bermudian player, and Baltimore Blast assistant coach, David Bascome.
Islanders have strong links with National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) side Blast for whom Alexander plays while Coddington's standout performances for Bermuda Hogges last season would have not gone unnoticed by coaches Bill Becher and Steve Widdowson.
For Alexander, it will be his first chance to get his feet wet in the professional outdoor game, while Devonshire Cougars winger Coddington has previously had trials in the United States, England and Italy.
Yesterday, ex-North Village defender Alexander said he was confident both he and Coddington could make the grade at the Islanders.
"The only expectation I have for myself at the Harrisburg City Islanders trial is to go out and play the way I know I can," he said. "Hopefully the coach likes what he sees from both myself and Domico.
"Obviously our goals are to earn a spot on the roster but everything is still a learning experience and my goal, as always, is to put my best foot forward.
"I didn't think the chance to play outdoor would happen so fast after the indoor season was done, especially since I'm an international player.
"Teams in the US only have limited international spots so it's tough to get a team to take a look at you."
The adjustment for Alexander to switch from indoor to outdoor should not be a difficult one having played for Bermuda's national team.
Although he has not managed to get on the pitch in his first season with the Blast, the experience and opportunity to train regularly with quality players would have surely left the 23-year-old in good stead for what lies ahead.
"So far may dreams have been coming true, but I still expect myself to play at the highest level possible in the US or in another country," said Alexander.
"I'm just keeping my head down and continuing to work hard."
For Coddington, it will be a further reunion with the Islanders defenders he put to the sword last season when the former Hogges player scored in a 2-1 win at the National Sports Centre (NSC). He also won the penalty for Hogges' second goal.
Such was his inspiring form for the Hogges last term, Coddington was named in the USL-D2 All-Star second team.
The Islanders will look to build on last season's third place finish when their season kicks off on April 17 at Richmond Kickers.
