The Bermuda Sloop Foundation has announced a $5,000 scholarship in memory of 22-year-old sailor Adam Goodwin.

An officer aboard the Spirit of Bermuda, Adam lost his life in a motorcycle accident on October 3.

The Saltus graduate had just passed exams for the Australia Maritime College in Tasmania. He served this summer as the Bermuda Sloop Foundation's youngest deck officer.

BSF Chairman Adam Burland said: "Despite Adam's quiet nature, he was a natural teacher and leader, and immediately became a key member of our team."

The first award of the scholarship will be announced by the Foundation in February. It will be used to train other Bermudian watch leaders aboard the Spirit.

The young Bermudian will also be remembered with a ship's bell on board the vessel.
