Year profit was $111 million -- .6 percent less than 1993 -- or 76 cents per share compared to $111.7 million or 80 cents a share for the year earlier.
Fourth quarter profit rose 22 percent to $26.7 million or 20 cents a share from $21.8 million or 13 cents a share a year earlier.
Quarterly and yearly per share earnings reflect payment on preferred dividends.
The Boca Raton, Florida based company credited rising sales of residential security systems for the healthy fourth quarter.
"Residential security systems sales are the engine driving growth in the electronic security services business with 180,000 new units sold during 1994,'' said Mr. Michael Ashcroft, ADT's chairman and chief executive.
Results for 1993 included a $800,000 charge from deferred taxes and higher financing costs, Bloomberg business news service reported Monday.
Quarterly revenue rose 6.8 percent to $358.8 million from $335.9 million while year revenue rose seven percent from $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion.
Earnings exceeded expectations of 19 cents a share.
For the year the number of outstanding shares rose 12.3 percent to 129.1 million from 115 million in 1993.
The company's electronic security systems division made about 74 percent of fourth quarter revenue with vehicle auction services contributing the remaining share.
