2009 Plein Air Painters show now open

Every weekend artists from the Plein Air Painters group are somewhere around the Island capturing the light as it rises or sets.

The group was started in Jonah Jones' backyard about seven years ago with the aim of introducing painters, at all levels of expertise, to the joys of working on location.

And every year they showcase their work in an exhibition the latest of which opened at the Bermuda Art Centre at Dockyard last night.

The show features 24 artists – Jill Raine, Marlene Jantzen, Wendi Fiedler, Diana Fearis, Win Coley, Chris Marson, Molly Godet, Chris Grimes, Sheilagh Head, Rosemary Glynn, Amy and Vaugh Evans, Margaret Potts, Rhona Emmerson, Marty Hatfield, Sylvia Vander Schee, Diana Amos, Jonah Jones, Joyce Hayden, Charles Knights, Grahame Rendell, George and Carolyn Graziani and Heidi Cowen.

The group has weekly meetings which vary from private homes to public spaces, they paint for two and a half hours and then have a group critique.

Anyone can join all the group needs is a current e-mail address.

Painters working in any media are welcomed.

There are absolute beginners and experienced professionals working side by side and there are more than 60 names on the group's e-mail list.
