Government plans Island health survey
will be conducted by Government.
"We hope to survey as many as one thousand people in this telephone poll,'' Health Minister Nelson Bascome said Monday.
The initiative is set to begin next week and run for a month. People will be chosen at random in an even distribution among each of the nine parishes.
Participants must be 18 years or older to engage in the survey which should last about 30 minutes.
Dr. Leonard Gibbons will conduct the survey with Government Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Cann. He said the survey will look at factors such as health status and social support, stress and coping, occupational health and the HIV/AIDS situation here.
Dr. Gibbons noted: "We expect to find that people are at different stages.
Some will need motivation and we can help guide them to the next level, taking them along step by step.'' Results from the survey will be made public next year, he said.
Health Permanent Secretary Donald Scott noted: "This survey will provide us with the baseline health conditions for Bermuda.'' HEALTH HTH SURVEY SUR
