Best of Bermuda will be on show, promises Blakeney
Community Minister Glenn Blakeney has promised the best of Bermuda’s talent will make up a comprehensive entertainment Bermuda Day programme tomorrow.Victoria Park will be the hub of activity, with performances continuing until 8pm, breaking only for the parade, Mr Blakeney told the House of Assembly.This year’s parade takes a new route: leaving Bernard Park at 1.30pm, making its way towards City Hall car park via Marsh Folly Road, Cedar Avenue, Church Street, Court Street, Front Street and Queen Street.Dignitaries will be seated in an official viewing stand at the Leopard’s Club, an area Mr Blakeney described as The People’s Avenue.“It is only fitting that the dignitaries be given the chance to participate in and enjoy the atmosphere in this region of the route,” he said on Friday.Meanwhile Environment Minister Walter Roban gave details of this summer’s Royal Naval Nights and Heritage Nights programmes, which will run for 18 weeks on Monday and Thursday nights in Dockyard.Heritage Nights kicks off on Thursday and will boast live music, ethnic dance performances, juggling acts and craft demonstrations.The Victualling Yard will have county fair-style entertainment, and a pub garden with a crown and anchor table and local food and drink and rum tasting will be set up outside the Frog and Onion.There will be a craft market, games area, entertainment stage and food and beverage area.Mr Roban said: “The Royal Naval Dockyard is more than a cruise ship port. It is home to an extensive arts and crafts community producing products made here in Bermuda. Additionally, Dockyard has shopping opportunities for many of the major chain stores as well as many unique small entrepreneurs.”Dockyard has two ships in port on Thursday nights, with Mr Roban saying: “Heritage Nights is aimed at everyone who lives, works or visits Dockyard, no matter whether you are a local or a visitor.”Useful websites: www.thewestend.bm
