Belco accepting scholarship applications
Bermuda Electric Light Company Ltd is accepting applications for the company’s scholarship opportunities that are available to Bermudian students.
The company said scholarships will be awarded to prospective employees of the company who will attend school and return to work at Belco.
The Llewellyn Vorley Engineering Scholarship provides the recipient with the opportunity to further their knowledge in engineering fields and to share knowledge and experience with the company and wider community, the company said.
The Belco scholarship selection committee’s objective is to increase the number of qualified Bermudian engineers participating in the field and ensure assistance for recipients’ educational endeavours. The three-year scholarship award is $25,000 annually.
The Belco STEM Education Awards are open to students studying for an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering and math. The company said the number of awards and value, between $2,500 and $20,000, will be at the discretion of the committee.
Belco said these awards are for a first degree and are awarded for one academic year only. Candidates must have provisional acceptance or notification to an accredited educational institution.
In accordance with the Ascendant Group’s vision, mission, values and stewardship of Belco, the A.T. Oughton Post Graduate Business and Finance Scholarship aims to increase the number of qualified Bermudians in the business or finance fields, the company said.
Belco said these academic fields are particularly important to the organisation’s leadership requirements, so that the company can meet the commitment to be Bermuda’s trusted and preferred provider of energy and infrastructure solutions.
The scholarship is valued up to $25,000 for one year and will be granted to a suitable candidate studying for a graduate degree in a business or finance discipline.
The C. Eugene Cox Post Graduate Environmental Studies and Sustainability Scholarship is valued up to $25,000 for one year.
The scholarship’s objective is to increase the number of qualified Bermudian engineers so the company can meet its commitments and provide a reliable service to the community, Belco said.
The scholarship will be granted to a suitable candidate studying for a graduate degree in a business, economics, engineering, environmental sciences or information technology related discipline.
