A drunk driver who told police he crashed his car in an effort to escape people trying to shoot him, was fined $2,500.Kaiwon Trott, 27, from Devonshire, pleaded guilty to several offences, including driving while impaired and causing wilful damage to police property.Magistrates’ Court heard that officers responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the Montpelier Road area of Devonshire around 12.51am on December 22.Trott identified himself as the driver of the vehicle, a silver car which had visible damage around one of its front wheels. He initially told the officers that he had been shot at by people on a motorcycle. He then said he had been chased by a motorcycle with an unknown number of riders, one of whom was holding a firearm.
