Two Berkeley Institute students were given $1,000 each to further their musical education.

Cahlii Smith, 17, and Aarian Lassalle, 17, will head to Atlanta this summer courtesy of the both the Bermuda Arts Council and PlayList Management.

Teresa Minors, manager of PlayList Management, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more about their craft and gain exposure to the inner workings of the music industry.

"We have organised for the students to receive instruction at Lion's Share Cre8tiv, Atlanta's number one artist development company as well as gain music production knowledge and experience with Beal Street Entertainment, one of Atlanta's premier music production/recording studios.

"This is an exciting opportunity for these two students and we would like to thank the Bermuda Arts Council for their support in this venture as we cultivate the creative passion of our young performers."

This week, PlayList Management hosted two overseas artists, members of the Indigo Sunset Band, on the Island for a brief vacation.

They visited schools and conducted mini music workshops for students.

According to a statement, it is all in preparation for the launch of a youth music showcase next year, which will feature music intensive workshops for participants, further opportunities for overseas instruction, and two nights of performances including young performers and overseas artists.

Bermuda Arts Council provided the funding.
